--Week 1 numbers breakdown:

The game started at 8:35, almost on time.  Everyone did a good job of shownig up on time and working hard to get through the drills.
The game ended in 70 minutes 13-7.  The speed was due to less turnovers then usual, and very few fouls.  Few turns are good, but we need to amp up the D--no fouls means D is not tough enough.

--Week 2 numbers breakdown:
Both teams had almost all goals thrown by 2 handlers.   Interesting factoid but I'm not sure how to interpret this:  could mean the downfield receivers aren't getting good continuation cuts, aren't making continuation throws, are taking smart dumps, or the handlers are hucking a lot.  Need stats on goals by hucks, and missed passes in the red zone by downfield cutters to draw any conclusions.  Dave and Ted also had 2/3s or their teams turnovers; I had half of my teams turnovers.  Chris was awesome.  So that means that Dave, Ted and I either suck, are pushing our teams upfield with aggressive throws, or a combination of both.  It definitely means that the team that gets one extra thrower will have a deeper, more balanced offense.

--Week 5 numbers breakdown:
Light somehow won this game by not only scoring 3 times the number of points as dark, but by committing 3 times the number of turnovers. I guess next week Tsaina will be dedicated Stat-Keeper.

Practice Schedule

Thurs: november 4, 11, 18, dec 2, 9, 16  7:30pm at Oury.

  Agenda:

 7:30-show up, cleat up, throw
 7:50-team lap, stretch
 8-8:30-drills
8:30-10 game to 15

 Goal of practices:

Overall improvement in skills and technique. Conditioning will be a result of the tight pace of practice, but not a specific goal.

We'll use two things to accomplish this.

 1.    game-situation drills that allow each participant to have a specific  objective and a specific number of attempts at the objective.   Players  can then measure their performance against a clear benchmark.  This will  minimize everyone's downtime by having someone constantly explaining  things and getting in your face, and reduce the "he's picking on me" BS.  I'm going to present the drills and speak a little bit about each position  in the drill, the options you would encounter in a game at the end of the situation, and then let it run for a set number of reps before moving on.  I don't plan on talking much during the drill unless specifically asked by  someone.

 2.    stats kept during games.  We'll place a pad or whiteboard on both  goalines, with each player listed.  At the end of the point each team  records the drops, throwaways, blocks, assists and goals for each player.  The two lists are totalled at the end of the night.  You get your  composite +/- score, and do sprints to make up for any minus.  This  objectively allows people to see if they are helping or hurting their  team, and hopefully they can learn from their stats.

Overall, I'm not worrying about an offense or defense too much.  If people  get better break marks, lead passes, learn better choices, and better  situational play, the BIG PICTURE stuff will take care of itself.  People  will not improve all at once, but this clearly presents what they should  be striving for.

Here's a tentative agenda for the first few weeks.  (Don't hold me to  this, I just made it up).

 Week 1
 1.    3 man box drill to work on lead passes.  Each person throws 10 to  each side with cutter running away..

 2.    Thrower and marker on the corner.  Cutter  and D are even with  thrower on the goaline.  Cutter gets a 2 step lead, and thrower has to hit  him with a break mark or inside out lead pass.  5 reps each.

 Week 2
 1.    Same drill as Week 1, #2
 2.    Thrower and marker are on the corner.  O and D are positioned for a  first cut.  O goes up the line or for  a crossfield swing.  D has to stop  it.  5 reps each.

 Week 3
 1.    Same drill as Week 2, #2
2.    3 on 3 games to 5.  Field is 40x25 (the endzones).  O all start on  the line.

 Week 4
 1.  Thrower and marker are on corner.  Cutter and D are 25 yards up the  line, and can go in or out.  5 reps.
 2.  plyo set (or not)

 Week 5
 1.    10 minutes of throwing blades and hammers.  Everyone works on catching at the highest point
 2.    O and D are on a cone.  O is about 3 steps in front of D.  A third  person stands near them and throws a cross field swing to hucker, who has  to huck to the O player.  Everyone plays each position 5 times.

 Week 6
 1.    Split into 2 teams.  Each team pulls to the other 5 times in a row.  D works on covering the pull.  O works on a set string play (I may teach  the side stack here).
